When most people hear of Virginia Beach, they think of parties, girls, and flat waves. While the first two lived up to the normal hype, Hurricane Danielle spun its way right off the mid-Atlantic coast, providing some of the best waves ever seen for the entire 48 years of the event of the Coastal Edge East Coast Surfing Championships. With Coastal Edge stepping up as the main event sponsor for the second year in a row, they turned the beach into what seemed like its own town. Tents, flags, and banners stacked high from every company—it was the East Coast’s answer to Huntington’s US Open. With overhead rights and lefts throughout the weekend, it allowed everyone to open up there surfing and show what they had.

In the Men’s pro final, two of New Smyrna’s top shredders Jeremy Johnston and Nils Schweizer were accompanied by Newport Beach’s top guitarist Andrew Doheny and Melbourne’s Kyle Garson. Andrew, who had been ripping all week as if it were Lowers seemed out of sync in the final and left VB with a respectable 4th place finish.

Nils Schweizer was on the bad end of an interference call and settled with 3rd place for the second year in a row. Kyle Garson was ripping all week and finished out the event in a solid 2nd place. Jeremy Johnston, who surfed his way all the way through the trials to title, came out of the gates flying and never looked back, taking out his first ECSC crown. His first major win in a while, Jeremy had this to say after the victory:
“I am super pumped to finally win this event after all the years of coming, such a fun event and cant wait to get back next year!”
